Bio : Beatnic Prestige

Beatnic Prestige are a mod/punk band formed in August 2006. In October the same year, following a few weeks of intense rehearsing, they played their first gig to a sell out home crowd at PJ Molloys in Dunfermline. Immediately after, they headed off on a mini tour of England which included a night at The Cavern in Liverpool. Since then it has been pretty much relentless.

Months of continuous gigging has seen the band play a number of sell out shows. Highlights include gigs at The Carling Academy Glasgow, Wickerman Festival, The Picture House Edinburgh, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut at New Year 2007 and The Old Blue Last in London. Along with the live shows, the band has also been selected, by the listeners, as Jim Gallately’s X-Posure showcase band of the week on XFM Scotland. As well as this, Vic Galloway tagged the band as ‘unsigned heroes’ for a week on his BBC radio Scotland show.

The band also runs its own limited company: ‘Weekend Revolution’. This is a highly successful live music night held every month in Dunfermline. The impetus behind ‘Weekend Revolution’ was to help create an exciting music scene in the town, and so far, it has been nothing but triumphant. The first two shows at PJ Molloys were a complete sell out, with the doors closing at 9pm. Following this, more recently, around a thousand gig goers turned out for ‘Weekend Revolution’ at Dunfermline’s Glen Pavilion, and the after show party at PJ’s, with highly acclaimed local band ‘Sergeant’ being the headline act.

The band released their first 4 track EP on January 3rd 2009 self titled ‘Beatnic Prestige’. In conjunction with CaVa Studios and Birnam CD this is the first professional recording to be put out their by the band. This was backed up with a 20 date UK tour spanning as far and wide as Aberdeen to London.

On the back of this tour, the band has been invited into the BBC Studio’s Vic Galloway to record a live 4 track session due to be aired on February 12th. This is available to listen to on the BBC introducing site from the next day.

‘Enterprise’ is a word seldom used for bands nowadays. Gone are the days when major record companies come along, pick you up and everyone makes a living. It is a D.I.Y. market and Beatnic Prestige intends to be at the forefront of Scottish Music in the year ahead.
