Lucky Day

Bio : Lucky Day

Lucky Day's sophomore effort "Rise & Fall" adds hints of reggae, country, and psychedelia to their catchy pop-rock sound. The band hosted CD release parties in three states, introducing fans to their newly recorded set of original songs.

In their short time together, Lucky Day has forged a pop/rock sound without ignoring the melodic echoes of the past - as The Washington Post put it, "some of the best pop-rock the '60s never heard."

The band's blend of urgent hooks, ethereal vocals, and textured guitars has been showcased at festivals such as The National Cherry Blossom Festival, The National Capital Barbecue Battle Festival, and the Six Points Music Festival. The group has developed a loyal fanbase, playing well-known venues such as the Black Cat (DC), IOTA (Arlington, VA), The Knitting Factory (NYC), Arlene's Grocery (NYC), Starr Hill Music Hall (Charlottesville, VA), and Mr. Small's Theatre (Pittsburgh, PA). They have toured up and down the east coast and have also been honored to play U.S.O. events.

Their 2006 debut EP "All My Rainy Days" garnered praise in the U.S. and abroad. The Washington City Paper proclaimed, "Lucky Day creates some of the most ear-pleasing Brit-poppish sounds we've heard in a while." On Tap Magazine said, "...Patchen's crystalline delivery is sure to draw comparisons to Kay Hanley or Vanessa Carlton. Combining a mid-'90s style instrumental assault with the glossy vocal sheen of today's top forty pop, Lucky Day is an agreeable, likeable band that writes catchy songs."

According to Cool Noise, UK, "Apart from a great voice, there is a dynamic that Blondie would have been proud of."

Countless radio stations (including Z104 and DC101) and podcasts have featured songs from the EP.

Positive reviews are rolling in for "Rise & Fall":
-Chosen as an "Editor's Pick" on CD Baby!

-"The fact that Lucky Day hasn't been signed mystifies me...they sound more polished than quite a few of
the bands featured on major radio stations all across the country. If their new album Rise & Fall doesn't
prove that, I don't know what will.'' --G-Pop.Net

-"You'll love their melodious sound, ably led by Victoria Patchen's sweet vocals." --On Tap Magazine

-"It's sweet-sounding female vocal-voiced wispy pop, complete with ethereal piano fills and it goes down like a cool glass of lemonade on a lazy summer's evening." --Metro Music Scene

-"Patchen’s voice is melodious as it is sweet and suits every song and lyric perfectly. The boys do a great job as a tight musical unit..." --Tone Deaf Critic

Recommended Track, "Second Last" --Local Vertical

In addition to their own releases (2006 and 2008), Lucky Day recorded a track for A Tribute to Superdrag (2006), released by Double D Records. Lucky Day's rendition of "The Art of Dying" was singled out as "sweeping and lush" by the label and received a glowing review by a member of Superdrag
itself (Don Coffey). Most recently, Lucky Day contributed tracks to two upcoming Lemonheads tribute compilations, both slated for release later this year by Double D Records (Nashville, TN) and Squealing Fans (UK).

"Rise and Fall" and "All My Rainy Days" are available at shows and online (LuckyDayBand.com, Amazon, Rhapsody, CDBaby, LoneBoy, and iTunes). As the Washington City Paper proclaims, "Listening to the band's songs will add to anyone's good fortune."
