Guest Judge Comments on: PEKKANINI's THEREMIN GOES POP! 8 point(s) for Composition / Songwriting This is a great tune. And if there was a lounge/exotica category this track would walk it! It is vaguely reminiscent of something like Jean-Michel Jarre, but the live theremin gives it quite a bit more soul. The drama of the "chorus" section really does sound incredibly Scandinavian! (There was a Finnish group I used to know called Laika and the Cosmonauts who had guitar instrumental tracks that used to move in that way.) Yes. I like this one. 7 point(s) for Performance As a fellow thereminist, I can attest to how difficult an instrument this is to play accurately. (Most people who have them just use them to make funny noises.) The arpeggios in the verse section would be demanding even for someone with Clara Rockmore's skills, and you pulled this off very well indeed. The backing track was fairly basic and technically undemanding, but showed a good selection of sounds and was nicely arranged. 6 point(s) for Capture Commenting on this sort of thing on the basis of a streamed MP3 is probably not that fair. In my experience this kind of electronic music is not usually too demanding to mix. This sounded fine to my ears, and I has been mastered well. 21 Total Points You obviously put your music into this category because it didn't fit into any others! It's certainly not avant garde or demanding listening. It's quite cheesy and has a quaint "outsider" charm to it. (And I mean that in a complementary way.) I checked you out on YouTube, where you have a HUGE presence, and I'd recommend anyone into lounge or exotica to seek out your work. It's clear from your background that you're compelled to make music. I can relate to that. I love the theremin and I love this tune. I could hear this in the nightly line-up at a dance club. This is the song where everyone gets up and dances really wildly, twirling like whirling dervishes! Wearing a cape or scarf is best ! Or I can see it as a rave. I can especially see it at a rave run by my friend Tomfoolery, who runs huge rave parties inside a big cave in Illinois. You have the poi sticks swinging and the fire batons twirling, lasers flashing, lights and sounds bouncing off the stone cove, and everyone experiencing a few minutes of musical ecstasy. The theremin in person is always a crowd-pleaser. Pekannini has made a great tune, very exciting and danceable. +++ suebasko

Definitely a unique sound - rock meets theramin as a solo instrument. However its a slightly limited format, very good soundtrack music and melodic but it doesnt really go much further than that. 19/30 annienightingale

This sounds mental. I don’t mean that in a good way. I mean deranged. I found the melody bordering on annoying. You can’t imagine your milkman humming this... Unless they were from Kazakhstan, That's what It sounds like, a lunatics day out in a Khazakstani whore-house! Seriously though, for ‘conceptual music inspired by horror and presented in a comedic, ironic and cool way’ listen to the new Evil Nine album ‘They Live’, or go back to Goblin, from the Argento moves of the 1970s. you can hear their influence in Justice today. Phantom part 2 is a Goblin cover. Listen to these then have another go. 10/30 eddytemple-morris

Bagpipes will always sound Scottish, Sitars Indian and didgeridoo Australian, none of which are in this track but the Theremin is and will always be 50’s Sci-Fi and B-movie horror. Mixing this with techno-rock seems quite bizarre and and a little comical. 15/30 iansanderson
