Record Union & The People's Music Awards
As an artist or band, making your music available to as many listeners as possible is a high priority - but can also pose a challenge. For this reason, The Peoples Music Awards have struck a deal with a digital distribution service called Record Union to offer artists partaking in the awards a great way to reach out with their music online.
Record Union is dedicated to helping artists just like you to get their music onto leading online music stores and streaming services, enabling listeners from all over the world to buy and stream their music. What´s more, when you sign up using our A&R code, you can distribute your first two releases free of charge.

So, how does Record Union work?
To distribute a single or album with Record Union, you just need to register for free on their website, upload your tracks and add the relevant information. You can then create your very own digital release. Once published, it will be zooming away to Record Union ́s partners and be available for purchase and streaming in a matter of weeks.
Where will my music become available?
Record Union will make sure your music becomes available on a wide range of music stores, mobile stores and streaming services. All in all, they can help you reach around 95% of the global retail market for digital music. Below you will find a selection of their current partners: • iTunes • Spotify • Napster • Amazon MP3 • Deezer • emusic • Rhapsody • TuneTribe • Lala • 7Digital • Last FM • Nokia Music Store and many more.
How much does it cost?
Now, here is the great thing: when you sign up with TPMA ́s special promotional code, you can distribute your first two releases on Record Union for free. For each additional release (Album or single) you will need to buy a new UPC or “barcode” (priced at $10 U.S). A UPC (Universal Product Code) is a requirement for selling a single or album online, and the only upfront cost for distributing your music with Record Union.
How much money do I make?
Once your release begins to sell online, Record Union asks for the first $5 it generates. After this, you will receive 85% of all your sales. However, this is after the music stores have taken their cut. It varies, but the music stores usually take between 30-50% of the retail price.
What about my rights?
Record Union does not ask for any kind of ownership rights to your music. However, what they do ask for is the exclusive digital distribution rights to their partners. Don ́t worry, this is not as scary as it sounds. It just means they would rather you did not distribute the same album to their partners via other distributors. The reason for this is that they and their partners want to avoid two copies of the same release being available on the same service. Otherwise you can do whatever you like with your music, it is yours after all!
