Guest Judge Comments on: Three Strings On My Guitar's On 7 point(s) for Composition / Songwriting Very lo-fi, this! This is such a singular approach that I'd hope that you already have half a dozen albums available that all sound indistinguishable from this track! That's where cults of this sort are made - repeat it enough and people will start to think you really mean it. This is pretty basic stuff that - as your profile suggests - has a "krautrock" sensibility about it. And I thought it worked. 6 point(s) for Performance I'm not sure you really want to judged on the technical quality of your musicianship, do you? The guitar playing sounded OK. The electronic percussion was a bit clumsy and didn't sound very nice. 5 point(s) for Capture This is difficult because it's clearly recorded with virtually no equipment, the electronics are distorted - but not, to my ears, in a good way - and the only FX you use is the simplest of single-repeat rhythmic echoes. Was this the effect you were striving for, or was it simply the best you could manage? 18 Total Points This is the kind of music that doesn't fit into the contemporary i-pod shuffle mode of listening. I'd really want to hear a whole album of this before I could assess how much I rated it. Does/did anyone ever listen to the odd out-of-context track by Faust, Can or Neu!? The first time I heard this music, I was blown away by how incredible it is! Then I got on the myspace and listened again and again. This is deep, rich, with hints of Near and Far Eastern music. This is a person experimenting with alternate tunings and alternate strings, and in doing so, reaching a deep level of our brains. True creativity here! Initially, an interesting, original idea. It benefited from a strong, recurrent theme and an effective sonic landscape. It felt more like an improvisation than a carefully crafted song. Ultimately, I’m not sure if it is wholly successful as an artistic statement. When one of your strings breaks, will you restrict your future work to two strings, or is there something particular about the remaining three strings? It feels a bit arbitrary and accidental rather than artistic. It’s provided me some food for thought, but I wasn’t tempted to go back and listen again. I liked some of the extreme sounds. It felt well engineered. It was clear and relatively concise. However, it still felt like a challenge brought about by an accident rather than a clever and innovative statement. From my perspective, there should be an emotional response to music, even at its most abstract. I didn’t get that. 12/30 tomlewis

I found the song to be quite weird, I was looking for a sense of rhythm but I couldn't find any. I'm not sure if the stringed instruments are meant to be distorted but it didnt work for me. You need to try and introduce some stronger rhythm in your music. 6/30 mickglossop
